It's Time for the Democratic Party to Show its True Colors

As we approach the Democratic Convention, the Democratic Party exhorts us to "unite the party," and implicitly asks Bernie Sanders' army, of mostly independent voters, to join and support the party and its candidates.

But what exactly is the Democratic Party these days?  Who and what are we being asked to join & support?  

Is the Party still an association of citizens, come together to support a common agenda - the "Party of the People," of FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, of "The New Deal" and the "Great Society?"  Or has it become a collection of insiders, supporting the narrow agenda of a select few - asking us to come along for the ride, and pay the frieght?

Has the Democratic Party become a "brand" - to be marketed to sheeple -  with insider candidates, political operatives, and lobbyists being paid handsomely, by us, while exhorting us to buy their "product?"

Does the Party want "We the People," or does it just want our money and votes?  

Does the Party still stand for "Government of The People, by The People, for the People," or for the interests of Wall Street, Big Pharma, the Corporate Media, and other big donors?​

Are we asked to donate money to support a common agenda - "to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty" - or to line the pockets of political operatives and media companies, as they manipulate our votes?  Are we asked to vote for our own interests, or for candidates bought and paid for by Wall Street, Big Pharma, the Corporate Media, and other big donors?

As the Convention approaches, will the Party "Establishment" welcome the next generation of citizens - mostly independent millenials, backing Bernie Sanders and a Progressive agenda - or will it continue to play an insiders' game?  Will Superdelegates vote in the interests of "We the People," or follow an insider agenda?  Will the Platform Committee be open and representative, or will it be closed to all but establishment insiders?

It's time for the Democratic Party to show its true colors.  Exhortations to vote for the "lesser of two evils" no longer work.  It's time for the insiders to decide who they represent.  Their actions will decide whether we have a united party, or an electroal debacle, and a Political Revolution to take back our Party and our Government.
